100 Meter Dash
Buffalo's Jordan Tucker got out well and moved well ahead of the field by the middle of
the race to take the convincing win in 11.20. Doddridge's Brandon Smith pulled away
from the rest of the field in the last 20 meters to take a solid 2nd at 11.35. Williamstown's
Mathew Zlatkind was the only other one under 11.50. 5th through 7th was decided by just
0.02. Two of my predicted placers didn't make the final.

200 Meter Dash
Buffalo's Jordan Tucker made it two-for-two as he throttled the field in the 200, taking
the win by nearly 0.4 seconds with his 23.07. Cameron's Zach Hall edged past Williamstown's
Mathew Zlatkind for 2nd by 0.02 with both coming in under 23.50. One of my predicted
placers got disqualified for running on the line.

400 Meter Dash
In the 400, it was Charleston Catholic's Phillip Mallory pulled away from the field to take
the win by nearly a second in 50.77. Meadow Bridge's Dakota Clere climbed up to 2nd with a
51.70, and Doddridge's Brandon Smith also broke under 52 seconds in taking 3rd. The top 7
were under 53 seconds. The pre-meet favorite, Doddridge's Zack Cottrill got hit with a False
Start.

800 Meter Run
Buffalo's Isaiah Robinson leg the group through an aggressive first lap in 57 seconds. He was
followed closely by Wirt's Logan Kerby and Meadow Bridge's Dakota Clere. Coming out of
the final turn, Robinson and Kerby were battling, and Tucker's Ian Nichols was making a move
into 3rd. Nichols closed exceptionally well over the last 200 meters to go from a distance 4th to a
convincing 1st, taking the win by just over a second in 1:58.88. Kerby also clocked in under 2:00 with
a 1:59.95. Robinson held 3rd with a 2:01.44. Clere held onto 4th at 2:02.36 with Charleston
Catholic's Phillip Mallory taking 5th at 2:02.90. No one else was under 2:05, and only
Wahama's Johnnie Ohlinger was under 2:07 among the rest of the field.

1600 Meter Run
This race went out very aggressively with Buffalo's tandem of Hayden Harrison and Isaiah
Robinson coming through in 61 seconds. Wirt's Logan Kerby was in 3rd. Doddridge's
Hunter Riffle was in 4th. Magnolia's Soren Shade was in 5th, and Wirt's Glenn
McMillan was in 6th, with each at 62 seconds. Two others were also through in 62. The pace
slowed a lot on the 2nd lap with McMillan moving to the front at 2:15 with that time being matched
by Harrison in 2nd. Robinson was in 3rd at 2:16 with Kerby in 4th and Riffle in 5th and Buffalo's
Conner Lamb in 6th, all with that same time. The pace picked back up a bit on lap 3 with
McMillan still at the front in 3:27. Harrison remained in 2nd, also at 3:27. Kerby had moved into
3rd, also at 3:27. Robinson was in 4th at 3:28, along with Riffle in 5th, also at 3:28. Shade had
moved back into 6th at 3:30. On the final lap, the races began. McMillan and and Kerby were battling
for the lead on the backstretch with Harrison and Riffle battling for 3rd, just ahead of Robinson.
Going into the turn, Kerby was in front, trailed closely by McMillan, and Harrison led Riffle.
Coming out of the turn and into the homestretch, McMillan made his final move into the lead and
was able to hold off the late charge of Riffle by less than half a second. McMillan clocked a 4:32.11
to Riffle's 4:32.53. Harrison held 3rd at 4:33.55. Kerby took the 4th spot at 4:35.59. Robinson
just held off Shade for 5th.

3200 Meter Run
Buffalo's Hayden Harrison led the field through the 1st lap in 1:08 with Doddridges'
Hunter Riffle matching that time. Wirt's Glenn McMillan was right behind in
1:09. Doddridge's Brandon Lively was in 4th at 1:11 with that time being matched by
Williamstown's Chandler Antill in 5th. St. Marys' Jonathan Haddox was in 6th
at 1:12. The front 11 were through at 1:12 or better. On the 2nd lap, Harrison maintained
his lead, crossing at 2:23. Riffle was 2nd at 2:24 with that time being matched by McMillan
in 3rd. Lively was in 4th at 2:28 with Antill closed behind in 2:29. Sherman's Jesse
Cannady had moved into 6th at 2:31. On lap 3, it remained close with Harrison, Riffle,
and McMillan holding the top 3 spots and all coming through in 3:39. Lively was in 4th at
3:42. Antill was in 5th at 3:45 with Cannady in 6th at 3:49. At the midway point, it was still
a three person race with Harrison and Riffle coming through at 4:54 and McMillan at 4:55.
Lively was gaining firm control of 4th at 4:59. Antill was solidly in 5th at 5:05. Cannady
was in control of 6th at 5:09. Lap five saw more of the same with Harrison leading Riffle
and McMillan through at 6:09 for each. They had opened a substantial gap on Lively, who
remained in 4th in 6:24. Antill remained 5th at 6:28 with Cannady still in 6th at 6:32. On
lap 6, Harrison and Riffle opened a gap on McMillan with Harrison leading the way at 7:24
and Riffle matching that time. McMillan was holding 3rd at 7:28. Lively remained in 4th at
7:49. Antill was in 5th at 7:53 with Cannady in 6th at 7:58. On lap 7 thing remained the
same with Harrison leading the way at 8:39. Riffle was right on his heels at 8:40. McMillan
was 3rd in 8:50. Lively was in 4th at 9:13. Antill was in 5th but closing at 9:16. Cannady
remained in 6th at 9:21. On the final lap, Harrison and Riffle battled for the entire lap.
In the end, Riffle was able to kick past Harrison in the final stretch. Riffle closed in 64
seconds, and had to do it because Harrison closed in 65. Riffle ended up getting the win by
less than half a second, 9:44.47 to 9:44.92. McMillan easily held onto the 3rd position in
10:07.93. Lively pulled back away from Antill in the final 200 to take the 4th spot. Antill
and Cannady held their positions. All 6 placers return next season.

100 Meter High Hurdles
Doddridge's Zack Cottrill took control early and pulled away as the race went on. His
15.94 clocking was the only one under 16.35. St. Marys' Anthony Johnson took the 2nd
spot at 16.38 after earning his way into the final on a solo re-run Friday night after he was
tripped by a falling teammate in the preliminaries. Buffalo's Gabe Garrison was the only
other one under 16.50. One of my predicted placers was gunned down in one of the many false
starts.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Magnolia's Jarod Kacor controlled the race, winning by over 0.8 seconds with a 41.62.
Richwood's Levi Mowery was the only other one under 43 seconds with a 42.47. The next
six spots were separated by less than 0.6 seconds with each getting in the 43's. One of my
predicted placers didn't run the event.

4x100 Meter Relay
Williamstown's squad of Trace Hart, Riley West, Malik Dufor, and Mathew Zlatkind dominated
the race, taking the win by over a second with a 44.49. Magnolia held the 2nd spot at 45.60,
just ahead of Doddridge's 45.68. Madonna was under 46 seconds as well with a 45.83.

4x200 Meter Relay
Williamstown's crew of Trace Hart, Riley West, Malik Dufor, and Mathew Zlatkind again
dominated, taking the win by over 1.3 seconds with a strong 1:32.02. Doddridge held an easy
2nd at 1:33.38. No one else was under 1:35 with just Madonna and Magnolia going under 1:36.

4x400 Meter Relay
Doddridge led after the first leg with Wirt in 2nd, Charleston Catholic in 3rd, Pocahontas in 4th
and Williamstown in 5th. Things shifted a lot in the 2nd leg with Wirt holding a slight edge over
Williamstown for 2nd. Charleston Catholic had moved to 3rd with Doddridge 4th. Tucker was in
5th with Pocahontas 6th. On the 3rd leg, it was Williamstown to the front, followed by Doddridge
and Tucker, who received a 51.8 leg from Chris Freeman to move into contention. Wirt was
4th and Charleston Catholic 5th. On the final leg, it was Ian Nichols getting a 51.3
split and making the pass for Tucker in the last 40 meters for the win. The Tucker group of
Zachary Armstrong, Kellen Dunn, Christopher Freeman, and Ian Nichols clocked a 3:34.33
to Williamstown's 3:35.08. The outdistanced Doddridge's 3:38.65 and Wirt's 3:39.28. No one
else was under 3:40 with Charleston Catholic getting a 3:40 and Wahama getting a 3:41.

4x800 Meter Relay
Wirt took the early lead on a 2:02 leg from Logan Kerby. Charleston Catholic was running
2nd at 2:04. Doddridge was in 3rd at 2:07. Buffalo was in 4th at 2:08. Williamstown matched
that time in 5th. Cameron was running 6th at 2:09. On the 2nd leg, Wirt took control, coming
through in 4:06 and generating a double digit lead as Charleston Catholic came through in 2nd
at 4:17. Buffalo was 3rd at 4:18. Doddridge was 4th at 4:20. Tucker had moved into 5th at 4:23.
Cameron remained in 6th. On the 3rd leg, Wirt continued to lead, but Charleston Catholic closed
the gap significantly. Wirt came through in 6:20. Charleston Catholic was at 6:24. Buffalo was
at 6:28. Tucker moved into 4th at 6:33. Doddridge was in 5th at 6:35 with Williamstown close
behind in 6:36. The final leg saw Charleston Catholic get a 2:00 leg from Phillip Mallory
and Buffalo get a 2:00 leg from Isaiah Robinson to move into the top 2 positions.
Charleston Catholic's foursome of Caden McClanahan, Justin Snyder, Greg Hart, and Phillip Mallory
took the win by just over 4 seconds with an 8:25.16. Buffalo also cracked the 8:30 mark with
an 8:29.20. Wirt held onto 3rd with an 8:32.29. Tucker got a 2:01 anchor leg from Ian
Nichols to nearly catch Wirt. Doddridge pulled away from Williamstown down the stretch to
take the 5th spot 8:40.98 to 8:43.69. No one else was under 9:00.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
The St. Marys group of Cody Wolfe, Cole Smith, Alex Baker, and Anthony Johnson picked up
the surprise win with a 1:02.64 from the 3rd heat. Buffalo won a close battle for 2nd over
Greenbrier West and Paden City as the three were separated by just 0.2 seconds. They were all
1:03.13 or better. Only one other team was under 1:05. Two of my predicted placers got hit with
disqualifications.

High Jump
Calhoun's Ryan Slider was the only jumper to go higher than 6'0 with his 6'4 jump. Only
Doddridge's Zack Cottrill and Valley Wetzel's Nicholas McGee cleared 6'0 among the
rest of the field. Two of my predicted placers didn't clear the opening height.

Pole Vault
Doddridge's Dyllon Hayes was the only vaulter to clear 13'0 in taking the title. He moved
the bar to 14'0 but was unable to clear the height. Williamstown's Dalton George and
Charleston Catholic's Phillip Mallory tied for 2nd at 12'6. Three others cleared 11'6.

Long Jump
Madonna's Marcello Biondillo was the only jumper to surpass 20' with his leap of 20'7.50.
Magnolia's Tim Weekley edged Doddridge's Zack Cottrill by just 1/2" for 2nd place
in just his 2nd meet of the season. Only those two and St. Joseph's Kyler Burgess were
able to go plast 19'0 among the rest of the field. Two of my predicted placers didn't make the final.

Shot Put
Gilmer's Nathan Stout easily took the event, winning by over 4' with his winning toss of
51'8. Valley Wetzel's Jacob Highley was the only other thrower over 46' with his throw
of 47'4. Only Gilmer's Hunter Ashley was able to go over 45' among the rest of the field.

Discus
Doddridge's Isaac Britton became a three time champion and set a new State Meet Record by hurling
the discus 165'11. That is the 8th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance.
Gilmer's Nathan Stout threw 158'10 to easily take 2nd. Teammate Hunter Ashley was
the only other thrower over 140' with his 146'0 toss. Only five throwers topped 130'. In fact,
only five throwers threw over 121' and only six threw 120'.

The final score of 82 of 108 means that 75.9 % of the people picked to place did indeed place. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
